Alpha Media Salina Helps Red Cross Through Friendly Competition
SALINA, KS, July 6, 2016 – Alpha Media, Salina announced the collection of over 300 units of blood for the Red Cross at their annual “Pump Up the Volume” blood drive held at Sunrise Presbyterian Church.
In its twenty-first year, Pump Up the Volume encourages listeners to donate blood over the course of three days while at the same time, a friendly competition between nine local radio stations takes place where donors vote for their favorite radio station upon completion.
Salina’s country station Y93.7 (KYEZ-FM) took first place for the seventh year in a row. Coming in second and third place, respectively, were two other Salina stations, 1150 KSAL-AM and Oldies 98.5 FM (KSAJ-FM).
Alpha Media Salina Market Manager, Bob Protzman commented on the announcement, “One of the most satisfying moments in this business is when, as a company, you can give back to the community in such a substantive way. The Red Cross has been one of our community partners for as long as I can remember and I am truly proud of the time and effort our staff puts in to promoting this event. It feels pretty good having three of our stations at the top of the list again this year!”
“This has been a great event that wouldn’t have continued this long without the support of the community. The blood drive gives the media an opportunity to be a little competitive and also help pump up our community’s blood supply during summer,” remarked Salina’s Public Service Director, Ken Jennison.
