Alpha Media Supports Hurricane Matthew Recovery Relief
PORTLAND, OR, October 13, 2016 – Alpha Media USA’s Southeastern markets; West Palm Beach, FL, Savannah, GA, Greenville-New Bern, NC, and Myrtle Beach, SC, were in the direct path of Hurricane Matthew this past week. Each market has worked hard to keeptheir communities informed and to provide support throughout the storm and its aftermath.
The “Alpha Storm Team” from Alpha Media Savannah-Hilton Head remained live, local and on the air throughout the storm, providing an around-the-clock simulcast across six stations which reached thousands with no other means of communication. The stations provided information about power outages, shelters, and where to get gas and food, while also providing a level of entertainment through the disaster. Many listeners personally expressed their appreciation. One listener wrote, “Alpha Media Savannah-Hilton Head, thank you! I wouldn’t have a clue of what’s going on or any entertainment without you.”
Alpha Media, West Palm Beach hosted a collection drive for those affected by the storm in Haiti. Local DJ, Reggie Dee coordinated with Cheney Brothers who donated a refrigerated 43-ft, 18-wheeler trailer truck to collect items to send to Haiti. Listeners from across the community, as well as businesses came out to donate including Crocs, Cheney Brothers, and Palm Beach Outlets.
Alpha Media, Myrtle Beach and Alpha Media, Greenville-New Bern have provided coverage on air and through social media, interviews with city and county officials, and provided continuous information regarding resources and storm recovery. Both markets are planning fundraising efforts in the coming days.
Bill McElveen, Executive Vice President for Alpha Media’s Eastern Region commented, “When natural disasters like Hurricane Matthew take place, live and local radio coverage is vital to a community’s safety and to its well-being as it attempts to recover from all the damage. We’re very proud of our Alpha teams who worked tirelessly before, during and after the hurricane to make sure the communities we serve were well-informed, comforted and kept up-to-date.”
