Bluefield Wins Personality And Station Of The Year
Alpha Media Bluefield is proud to announce big wins at the West Virginia Broadcasters Association “Excellence in Broadcasting Awards” this past weekend. WHAJ “J104.5” was named Station of the Year for the 6th year in a row and Kicks Country jock and Programming Director Joey Jarvis won Personality of the Year.
WHAJ has been honored with Station of the Year 10 times previously and 6 years consecutively since current Programming Director Brock Whitt took the helm in 2010. 2010 was also the year WHAJ was named Legendary Station of the Year at the WVBA awards. Whitt, who himself has won Personality of the Year 3 times in the past, said, “We have a great team that works hard. [The award] is well deserved. There are bigger stations in bigger markets in West Virginia and it’s nice to be recognized for our effort.”
Alpha Media Executive VP of Programming, Scott Mahalick commented on the wins, “Our Bluefield Team is 1st Class. The talent and station pride exudes not only in person but on the air. I am proud to have them in the Alpha Media Family.”
Joey Jarvis has been on air on WHKX/WHQX “Kicks Country” for 11 years and Programming Director for the simulcast FM’s for 10. Under his management, Kicks Country has been named Country Station of the Year 6 times by the WVBA. This is the first Personality of the Year win for Jarvis who, when asked about the honor said, “I cried.” adding, “I just love my job.”
Operations Manager, Ken Dietz, had this to say, “We really have a lot of talent in the building and we’re constantly pushing ourselves to be better than we were yesterday. The WVBAs are a nice confirmation that our efforts are paying off and you can’t judge a station by the market size. We’ll bring it even harder next year.”
