Brooking’s K Country 102.3 Helps Raise Over $14,000 for Brave the Shave

BROOKINGS, SD, April 4, 2017 – Alpha Media, Brookings is proud to announce K Country 102.3 (KKQQ-FM) helped bring in over $14,000 for Brave the Shave. Brave the Shave was held March 20th from 4:30pm to 6:30pm at the Brookings Fire Station in East Brookings, SD.

Bryan Waltz from the Wireless World Morning Show, broadcasted live from the event. He also helped raise funds by volunteering to have his head shaved. This is the second year that Waltz has given his hair to Brave the Shave. Thirty people braved the shave on Monday afternoon and participated in a raffle for gift cards. The Brookings Sheriff’s Department, Deer Creek Station, Valero and the Brookings Blizzard Hockey team helped the station raise funds as well.

Alpha Media, Brookings Market Manager, Cami Powers commented on the announcement, “You had to laugh, our Sheriff Marty Stanwick walked away with a mohawk. It was great to see so many groups come out to help make a difference locally for kids with cancer and their families.”

“Just days before last year’s event, I had a friend who was diagnosed with cancer. That’s when I decided to show my support by shaving my head for her and the kids! It was great to be able to do it again this year,” remarked Waltz.

Brave the Shave Brookings is sponsored by Deer Creek Station. Brave the Shave is a volunteer-powered charity and is the region’s largest fundraiser on a mission to fight childhood cancer through family support and research.
