Canton’s WHBC and Mix 94.1 Sponsors McKinley-Massillon Food Fight

CANTON, OH, November 3, 2016 – Alpha Media, Canton announced that for the 5th year in a row, WHBC-AM and Mix 94.1 (WHBC-FM) presented the McKinley-Massillon Food Fight which took place October 17th-28th.

McKinley and Massillon are rival high schools in the Stark County area, but they come together to collect donations for the Stark County Hunger Task Force. This year the schools collected 31,516 pounds of food in groceries and monetary donations. Every dollar donated provides seven pounds of food for the hungry. To date, the annual Food Fight has brought in a total of 116,000 pounds to the benefit area residents in need.

Alpha Media Market Manager, Larry Gawthrop commented on the announcement, “We are very proud of our role in this historic high school football rivalry.  The food fight has continued to grow and has become the charitable component for this community battle.”

Founded in 1981, Stark County Hunger Task Force at 408 9th St. SW, Canton, leads the battle against hunger in Stark County. Operating almost entirely on donations, SCHTF provides free groceries to an average of nearly 28,000 individuals every month through more than 30 food pantries, “Backpacks for Kids” programs and an emergency pantry.
