St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital was founded in 1962 by Danny Thomas and is the leading childhood cancer research hospital in the world. All of its research is shared freely and protocols developed at St. Jude are used at hospitals everywhere to treat childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. It costs almost $2 Million a day to operate the hospital, and it’s ran primarily through individual donors and fundraising events, such as radiothons. No family ever receives a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing, or food.
