Victim of Portland Racism Shares Her Story with Dana Cortez

PORTLAND, OR – September 15, 2018 – Selina Cairel, a resident of Vancouver, Washington and her friends were out in Portland on Wednesday evening going to an arcade and stopped at a Voodoo Donuts location when they started hearing racial slurs from the car parked next to them as they were backing out of their space. Their story has gone viral with close to two million views in 24 hours’ time. Cairel courageously shared her story exclusively with morning show host Dana Cortez on WE 96.3.

The driver, Sierra Dawn Measelle, an exotic dancer alleged to work at several local Portland nightclubs started to speak to Selina through her window saying that she was an “illegal” and ‘can’t see’ because of her Asian heritage. Selina then quickly picked up her phone to capture the rest of the encounter on video. Then Measelle says: “Before you say anything you might want to make sure you’re actually legal, and then call the cops and let them know.”

Dana Cortez commented on the interview with Cairel, “When I reached out to Selina, my goal was to focus on her feelings and find out how she was doing. Not many would have had her self-control in a situation like that and she gave us all a great example of how to deal with ignorance. Hold your head up high and be the better person.”
